I admit that the relationship between technology and magic is still not fully clear to me.
One fact I know is that technology is often spiritual, or digital. Human language is not only a tool of communication, but also a tool of thought.
One can say “I watched the film “The Princess Bride” over ten times.” to convey a piece of information.
One can say "cry wolf" to refer to The Boy Who Cried Wolf, e.g. in "saying that Microsoft plans to embrace&extend GNU is 'cry wolf'".
One can say "One doesn't simply not know who Marilyn Monroe is" ( Reference ) instead of "practically every human-of-importance has heard of Marilyn Monroe and knows who she was" to piggy back on the snowclone quote, image-macro, and meme. This will either make the message more amusing (and possibly more memorable), or if the recipients are not yet familiar with the meme, not hurt much, and may be mildly amusing.
A lot of technology and magic defies the terrestrial science, including Einstein's Relativity or determinism. I can also write "2 + 2 == 5" or "qmail is both open-source and non-open-source" or "This statement is false" ( Reference ) while having confidence that life will most probably go on.
Technology = pre-developed, reusable maths-like functions, which accept parameters, and construct magical transformations of the state of the universe (possibly by calling other techs) and perform them. (??!)
Hackers prefer to use technology that "makes sense" over one-off magic spells: "newer technology often doesn't completely eliminate the use of older one". I use all of XML, YAML, JSON, Perl, Python 3, C, vlc, mpv, duckduckgo, google [ Reference ].
