Maturity, Mindshare and Distance from the Mainstream

Maturity, Mind-share and distance from the Mainstream are three factors that, like it or not, also affect the choice of language. Immature technologies tend to have many non-discoverable, or well-publicised quirks and bugs. Technologies without a good mind-share have fewer people to consult about problems one encounter. And the less mainstream a technology is, the less it tends to be polished or to have essential features, tools and APIs, that developers of more mainstream technologies take for granted.

As a result, such factors should be weighed in, when choosing a technology.
